Landmark Day

We reached a landmark today, and we all feel quite pleased with ourselves.  The land mark is that we changed the domain name on our new website, and removed the password so it is there for all the world to see (and, we hope, shop from).  There has been a lot of work, and there is still plenty to do, but we feel that we have enough stock on to go live.  Of course, this the work doesn't stop here.  There will be a lot of back end work to keep the site fresh, and current, and of course we will be frantically picking and packing your orders, and getting them in the post for you.  We welcome any suggestions or comments (please send them by e-mail) and of course we look forward to your custom.  We will work hard to keep you up to date with what is going on in Dunchurch, both at Lyttles and with our associated company, Heart of England Fly Fishing School: it's not long until we kick off the winter fly-tying classes again.   Please subscribe to the blog via the RSS feed or keep checking in to see what's news and what's new, and of course look at our Facebook pages and twitter feeds if you can.

Progress

Bit by bit we are making progress towards getting the online shop live.  The Crystal River fly range is on the product database, and that is the largest single product group that we have.  It covers flies for trout, salmon, sea-trout, salt-water (warm and cold) and freshwater predator flies: now all we need is the photographs to go with the product descriptions.  This will take a while so we are going to go head down, no going out, no having fun for a few days while we crack this key job.  It's a dirty job (or at least time consuming and probably a bit dull) but we have got to do it, and I hope that you like the results.  At present we have a full description for some of the range, and over the coming months we will be adding descriptions for the remainder as and when we have time: we hope that they are of use and interest to you.

What a day!

Posted by Bruce Crawford in Dunchurch, flyfishing, flytying, Lyttles, online, shopping
We have had a pretty busy and intense day at Lyttles HQ in Dunchurch.  We closed the shop for the day and for anyone hoping to visit us today we apologise profusely, but it was really necessary, and very productive.  We try not to close too often, and to use the opportunity to conduct staff training and business development so that when we do open again we are better than before.  Today's staff training was around the subject of our new online shopping package which we think we are getting closer to launching.  There are a lot of aspects to consider, and while it can be an on-going and live project that develops as we go there several aspects that we want to get right from the beginning: it was those that we were working on today.  In particular we want to know that we are handling the orders correctly, and hope that we have anticipated all the conceivable combinations of circumstances that may arise when we receive an order and process it.  We know from our own experiences of online shopping that there is nothing more frustrating than placing an order and then waiting and waiting, and then having to pick up the phone to find out where the order (and the money) has gone.  I think we have got all that weighed off and squared away.  Now I have just got make the website look nice and neat, and easily understandable and navigable.  There is nothing worse when you are online shopping...  You know what I mean!
