This pattern is tied on a size 14 hook and imitates a wind blown or flying ant. The body consists of a small teardrop of epoxy that is dyed red next to a teardrop of epoxy dyed black. Both the teardrops are transparent, giving the fly a shiny very realistic look. In between the two teardrops there is a black cock hackle which suggests the legs of the ant and also keeps the fly in the surface film. Ants can be blown on to the water at any time: when you add the possibility of a swarm of flying ants descending on to the water in their hundreds it makes this a pattern that should be in your box. It can be used on rivers and lakes from June to October.
