This pattern is tied on a size 14 hook and represents Caddis lava. The under body is olive synthetic dubbing, the over body is a clear shellback ribbed with black nylon The fly is finished with a grey fur beard hackle to imitate legs. In colour this pattern closely matches the rhyacophila lava which is only found in rivers and streams, but it can be used to cover many of the small to medium caddis lava seen on rivers and lakes. Fish this fly as part of a team of two or three flies exploring the river bed, if on the river, and on a sinking line either on its own or in a team when on a lake. From March to July would by this patterns most productive time.
