This pattern is tied on a size 12 hook and is a general nymph pattern. The body, tail and thorax are tied using cock pheasant tail fibres, with a gold wire rib wound over the fly. The wing case is made from Firefly’s Lumi foam, which gives this very traditional fly a new look. The Pheasant Tail nymph was developed on the chalk streams to imitate the nymph of up winged flies, but over the years, it has been used to imitate any small nymph. The fly should be retrieved very slowly to match the speed of the natural insect. This pattern can be used on rivers and lakes and can be productive all season.
