A size 16 pattern imitating a grasshopper. The wing is a yellow / green dyed feather which has been coated to make it more durable and then cut to shape. The wing sits over a detached body of yellow / green dyed deer hair which is also used to form the head. Red eyes and trailing trimmed feather legs complete the fly. Grasshoppers `sing’ by rubbing the hind legs against the forewings, whenever that sound is heard cast this pattern to likely looking lies near the bank and wait for explosive takes. This pattern can be used on rivers and lakes and is at its most effective during the warmer months of the year.
